why won’t my games run on vista?

mafia games
styce asked:

i bought the games prince of persia and mafia, (which said on the pack that they were vista compatible,) installed them fine but when i open them to play, my pc says it has stopped working, these games need low specs and my pc has high ones so i don’t know what is wrong. i think i migh need to download some sort of update but i dont know where to get them from.

the same thing happened when i got windows messenger but i then downloaded an update and it started working.

do you have any error messages, or your computer just freezes, for no apparent reason.
if you have any error messagesm then you might recheck your hard requirement for a game.

Use DirectX Diagnostic Tool:
1) Start > Run > type “dxdiag.exe” > click the “Display 1″ or “Video/Graphic Card” tab.
2) Press the “Test DirectDraw” button. Complete that test.
3) Press the “Test Direct3D” button. Complete that test.

If those tests fail, try reinstalling DirectX 10 at…

Assuming these steps work, take notice of your video card. It is listed under “Devices” in that same window.
You might just need to update your driver. Go to… for NVidia drivers or for ATI drivers.

Download and install the software, then restart and try the game again.

Good luck, email me if you need more help.

I would have thought that you would only have problems if you had a low spec computer.

People are still playing games written for Windows 3.11 and Win 95 using Vista PCs so your games should run OK.
