You do not need to rent a server to play multiplayer games on the PC. The only time you would rent a server is if you want to host your own dedicated server so that you and your clan/friends can play on it so you have complete control on how matches are set up and whatever custom content you want to mod the game with. If you just want to play on-line multiplayer don’t worry about renting a server. BTW renting a server can be quite expensive and unless you are really tech savy and have a lot of spare time on your hands it really isn’t worth it. Most people who run dedicated servers also have websites that organize their clan for tournaments and raising money to keep the server going. Its not an easy thing to do. Its like running a non-profit organization.
