Can online games be played by different platforms in the same game?
Fat Tony P asked:
I have a PS3, my friend has a Wii, and we both have Call of Duty 4. Can we play against each other or are we stuck playing against players with the same system? The same question goes for other multi-platform games such as Madden and NCAA.

NO, it only goes from system to system. PS3 online only plays other ppl with the same game with a PS3. Same goes with Xbox 360 and Xbox live…etc.
hope i helped =)
Good Gaming!!
There’s nothing that prevents it from being possible. But it is rather rare.
In general, no. The problem is that the back-end service that hosts the games is different between console platforms. Sony’s servers don’t talk to Nintendo’s which don’t talk to Microsoft’s. So you (with your PS3) and your friend (with a Wii) are likely out of luck.
(There may be some gray-market services that offer this, but you run a big risk of getting your account banned.)
However, Microsoft’s Live service allows for cross-platform multi-player gaming between Windows-based PCs and the Xbox 360 — in theory. So far, the only game to implement this is Shadowrun. Neither Halo nor Gears of War (both of which are available for Xbox and Games For Windows) offer cross-platform multi-player.
