Why are there so many games like mafia wars and mobsters?

The answer is because they are popular and probably easy to code.

@ Tulasi: There exists many free games whose source code are available, for example,
you wont just get source code for games,just like that,try a simple program code that involes a game or something known popular,its very difficult to obtain,try google anyways,
