You need the setup disc that you put into your ps2 to setup online to the PS network. Make sure you have a 20GB, 60Gb, or a 80GB system, they are the only ones backward compatible. Anyway, you need to create an internal memory card on the PS3, so that it can save the data for setting up online. If you do not have the setup disc (it came with the Ps2 models that came with an online adapter pack), you can go to sony.com and ask for a free one.
