Are there any other online games/programs similar to Second Life?

sprinkledpearls asked:

I’m really interested in the Second Life type of online experience but for some reason I just can’t get into the style and specific set up of Second Life. Are there any other online games/programs with the same concept of this program?

There, is completely like Second Life except its easier to use.

IMVU is a little bit different, cuz you dont walk around in one big world. But you can go to peoples rooms and drive cars and stuff still, and theres all kinds of clothes and stuff.

Well, most Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games have a lot of elements for establishing the concept of a ’second life’. That’s of course the origins of “role-playing” games. While many easy-to-find ones are more about combat and related, there’s still tons that are focused on casual elements.

However most will probably require sacrificing visual-appeal. Second Life from my understanding has been very complexly designed. To maintain a do-anything-you-want environment, designers must avoid making a limiting game engine. Therefore pure text is about as unlimited as it gets.

I don’t know about its current development, but Gaia Online is one such system that is focused in the casual range (when I last looked into it at least).

Probably the only odd name I know is “Samurai of Legend”. I think it is pretty much all text, but seems rather popular nevertheless. It certainly has an ideal level of freedom and a good community, as I hear it.
