What is the best and most reliable way to play online games (my family has a wireless broadband connection)?
Erik T***** asked:
I’ve played Warcraft 3 with our wireless connection but sometimes I would get disconnected. I recently upgraded the firmware on our router (because stuff like that usually fixes technical issues and unreliability). But I haven’t played Warcraft 3 in months because of other issues with my computer (I’ll be getting a new one soon

Would hooking up an ethernet cable between a computer and the wireless router be the best way to play online games? Is there a better way? I’m a little leery about wireless connections.

any intense graphic exchange would have problems with wireless. you would be much better off with wired in this case.
You will be better off with a cabled connection. It is faster, and more reliable.
Wireless connections DO tend to show a drop in signal – if you have any signal snooper software, you would see a periodic ZERO signal on the signal strength analyzer.
The other culprit is the network out there – congested at times, blazing at other times. So, a wired connection would tend to be better, but you can’t rule out network congestion, retry, dropped packets etc. even there.
Depends on the router. If you can connect directly to the router without significant cabling problems, that is ALWAYS the more secure and probably faster connection. I don’t think I have ever had a router drop a ethernet connection, (that I know of) Just about every wireless router I have ever owned (linksys, dlink, netgear, belkin) has occasionally dropped it’s signal. If getting kicked from an online gaming session is a real concern, skip wireless on the gaming computer.
Road Runner is really good and reliable. I play online games with it (warcraft III bieng my favorite then runescape) and it never got disconnected or anything. Its reliable, and its wireless so dail up cant mess me up. I use Belkin routers, meaning you buy one at the store and hook it up to your computer. If you get a Belkin, the best way to go is by the unit hooker it comes with, because some computers can block the connection. I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND THE DELL WIRELESS CONNECTION! the Dell one didnt work for my brother and now he has to disable Norton Anti-Virus which is really bad because of all the viruses
hope this helps your question!
